Akron selected for pilot program connecting tech job seekers, companies

The TechHire Race to Place hiring pilot uses an online hiring platform to help companies find talent they may otherwise have screened out and to place job seekers in high-demand tech jobs, according to officials from ConxusNEO, which is coordinating the community’s TechHire initiative and Race to Place hiring pilot. Akron is one of six locations in the pilot, which will focus on software developer positions, officials said.

The pilot will use an online hiring platform developed by Opportunity@Work, a nonprofit organization collaborating with local communities and supporting the national TechHire initiative, according to officials. Akron was named a TechHire community in August 2015.

Jobseekers can detail their skill sets, work history, previous projects and certificates or relevant experience at www.techhire.careers, officials said. They also will complete an online assessment to evaluate fundamental coding skills and programming language and an interview process to evaluate their soft skills, according to ConxusNEO officials. Companies can consider these vetted candidates for entry-level software developer positions.

ConxusNEO is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to cultivate a talent system driven by the skills and competencies that companies need to be competitive, according to ConxusNEO officials. Companies with information technology hiring needs and jobseekers with tech skills who would like additional information should contact ConxusNEO, 277 E. Mill St., by calling 330-630-9970, sending an email message to operations@conxusneo.jobs or visiting www.techhireakron.org.
